Patrick Johansson Interview
September 2001

Patrik Johansson is Yngwie's newest drummer for the South American 'War To End All Wars' tour. Patrik has previously played with Stormwind.

How did you hook up with Yngwie?
I went to see his show in Stockholm/Sweden this summer after the gig we talked a bit and then one day he phoned me and asked me to go to south America with him.

What attracted you to spending the month of September in South America playing with Yngwie Malmsteen?
How could you say no to playing with the best guitar player in the whole world!!!.

According to your website TRILOGY is one of your top 10 favourite albums of all time. For you, what is it about TRILOGY that sets it apart from all of Yngwie's other albums?
I like all his albums but Trilogy is one of the reasons I play drums today.

You contributed to the 1999 Yngwie tribute album with the band STORMWIND. At that time did you ever think that you would some day be working with the artist who's song you were covering?
What's gonna happen in the future is impossible to say I'm always try to focus on the present but of course I have dreams and sometimes they come true!:-).

You list the late Cozy Powell as one of your favourite drummers. As you probably know Cozy played on Yngwie's 1998 album FACING THE ANIMAL. Any chance that you will get to play one of the songs from that album on the tour?
For me to play a Cozy song would be a great honor but which songs that's gonna turn up you have to see for your self on this tour.

Yngwie is notorious for line-up changes, in fact this will be the 3rd different line-up for the WTEAW tour. Did you have any reservations about signing up for this tour. If so why? And if not, why not?
Of course not!!!!! I don't judge people after rumours I rather see for myself what's going on. And I think Yngwie is again the best guitar player and a really nice guy I really enjoy working with him.

Traditionally Yngwie has allowed his drummers to add their own personal "touch" to his material. What do you think you will bring to the table that is different from any of Yngwie's previous drummers?
A lot of FAST LOUD DOUBLE BASS DRUMMING!!!!!!!!.

Yngwie has expressed interest (if things "gel") in possibly recording with the South American tour line-up. Are you interested in recording with Yngwie and do you have any other projects in the works that would prevent you from doing so?
If Yngwie would like me to play on his next record I would be more than happy to do it.

What is your favorite Yngwie song and why?
It's hard to pick one favorite but I really like 'Far Beyond The Sun'.

Is there anything else that you would like to say to the fans?
Come to the show enjoy the music and have a good time and see you in South America!
